7 Basics You NEED in Your Closet

We have all heard that we need certain basics in our closets but, what are those and why do we need them?

Basics are the foundation pieces of your wardrobe. They are the necessities that allow you to build flattering outfits each day.

  1. A proper fitting bra.

Ladies, bras are necessities for us whether we like it or not. It is important that our bras fit correctly in order for them to effectively do their job – that is support our breasts. No one likes saggy breasts and no one should walk around looking like they have four. So please go to your local Victoria’s Secret and get fitted.

Once you are wearing the correct size, your clothes will lay better, thus looking more flattering. Plus bras are WAY more comfortable when they fit properly. We wear our bras EVERYDAY so invest in GOOD QUALITY!

2. A good quality camisole.

Why? A good quality camisole like the “Downtown Cami” from Express can easily elevate the simplest of looks. Wear it on its own, paired with your favorite jeans or layer it under a blazer for the office. https://www.express.com/clothing/women/downtown-cami/pro/08633346/color/Ivory/e/regular/

Want a more affordable option? Check out the women’s “Crepe Cami” from Target’s “A New Day” collection. I have been loving these lately! https://www.target.com/p/women-s-crepe-cami-a-new-day-153/-/A-53657486?preselect=53470122#lnk=sametab

3. A white or black t-shirt.

A solid white or black t-shirt can pair with anything from jeans to trousers to skirts. Want to dress it up? Add a statement necklace or earrings.

4. A great fitting pair of jeans.

A great fitting pair of jeans goes a long way in your wardrobe. They can be worn casually or dressed up depending on the style and the wash. I suggest going with a style that flatters your shape best whether that be skinny, flare, boot cut, or straight leg.

My personal favorite are skinny’s with a mid to high rise because they make my legs look long and they help create smooth lines in my mid-section, hiding my mom tummy.

I love getting my jeans from https://www.express.com/ because they always fit perfectly and they have great stretch so they are super comfortable.

5. Denim Jacket

Denim jackets are so versatile! They look good with just about anything! You can wear yours over a cute dress or with a pair of trousers for a more casual look. Look for one with some stretch to make it more comfortable.

6. Leather Jacket

Just like a denim jacket is versatile, so is a leather jacket. A black leather jacket is most classic but you can also choose one in a color like burgundy or a cream if black is not your style. Leather jackets (vegan leather is great and more affordable) can toughen up an outfit or you can look for more girly/classic styles if edgy is not your cup of tea.

7. Blazer

Blazers are known mostly as a work wardrobe essential BUT they don’t have to just be for work. A classic black blazer with clean lines is always a great basic to be worn for work, with your favorite pair of jeans, or over a dress.

Blazers don’t have to be typical though either. I love a good statement blazer to take your outfit to the next level. Think color, texture, or a unique cut like a peplum. It’s all in the details. Let your personality shine through your blazer.

Just because something is a “basic” in your wardrobe, doesn’t mean it has to be boring – it just means that it is a versatile piece that you wear A LOT.

So remember to have fun and enjoy your clothes.

What are your favorite basics? Are there any others you think I should have included in this list?
